Are you undecided on a major and need guidance on finding the right career choice? A major to keep in mind is public relations. I was in your shoes before undecided on a major not knowing where I wanted to take my career path until I learned about public relations and the job opportunities it could bring me.

Public Relations is getting the attention and sharing a public opinion. This can be achieved through publicity, advertising, the use of press agents, public affairs forums, lobbying public officials, and every other means that get a message before the public. The job opportunities can be endless, and you’re not restricted to just one specific job when getting a degree in public relations.

While studying public relations at Auburn University I took multiple classes in different categories that helped me find out what side of public relations would be best for me. Some of the classes consisted of journalism, multimedia, sports reporting, pr in the music industry, and style/design messages.  I learned news skills in journalism writing such as investigative, news, features, column stories, and reviews. Multimedia I gathered skills on creating events and how to send out media kits. Sports reporting gave me the opportunity to attend sporting events to take stats and quotes from the players to write compelling game summaries. Pr in the music industry taught me how to work with a client within a team to help build the image for an artist to succeed on social media and at public events. Lastly, the style/ design message consisted of Adobe Creative Suite, Canva/Spark, as well as blogs, professional certifications, and coding experience.

A great thing about having a career in public relations it can allow you to combine passions and professions together. I’m passionate about sports, music, and creating content. Public relations have given me the opportunity to be able to find internships and job opportunities with companies and sports teams.
